Death of Henry Hilgenkamp

Henry Hilgenkamp, who has been a suffferer from cancer of the stomach for the past two years, passed away at his home six miles northeast of Arlington, at 11 o'clock Wednesday forenoon, aged 65 years. The funeral will be held Saturday, a short ceremony taking place at the house at 12 o'clock, at the conclusion of which the body will be conveyed to the Evangelical Lutheran church, of which organization he had long been a member, where services will be held at 1 o'clock, interment being in the cemetery near the church.

Henry Hilgenkamp died at his farm home north of Arlington last Wednesday, having been a sufferer from cancer of the stomach for several months. He was 65 years of age and was one of the pioneer settlers of that part of the county. Mr. Hilgenkamp was state senator from this district for six years and was one of the largest land owners in the county. The funeral was held Saturday.

Henry H. Hilgenkamp, a pioneer farmer and one of the largest land owners in Washington county, living north of Arlington, died last Friday (sic) after suffering many months with cancer of the stomach. He was 65 years old, was born in Germany, coming to this country while quite young.

The funeral was held Saturday.

Last week we briefly mentioned the death of Henry Hilgenkamp, which occurred at his home northeast of town, surrounded by his family after an extended illness lasting about two years. The funeral Saturday was largely attended by sympathizing friends.

Henry L. Hilgenkamp, whose death occurred Wednesday, Febr. 22nd was born the 11th of Sept. 1845 at ……….District Hereford, Westphalia Germany. His parents were John Herman Hilgenkamp and Anne Margaretha, nee Bavien. In his boyhood he came with his parents to this country, locating at Quincy, Ill. In the spring of the year 1861 the family moved to Washington County, Neb. of which the deceased has been a resident until his death. He was united in marriage Sept. 15, 1870 with Anna Giesselman, of this county, who survives him. Eight children were born to them, four sons and four daughters, of whom one son and one married daughter preceded the father in death. The surviving children are: William, Henry and Edward Hilgenkamp, Mrs. Fred Echtenkamp, Mrs. A. Schermann and Mrs. Walkenhorst. Other relatives, surviving the deceased, are fifteen grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters. The burial was conducted last Saturday afternoon after a brief service at the house, from the Evangelical Lutheran St. Paul’s church, of which the deceased was a member since its founding. The interment took place in the congregation’s cemetery, south of church. Mr. Hilgenkamp attained the age of 65 years, 5 months, 11 days.
