Henry Edw. Hilgenkamp

Henry Edward Hilgenkamp was born November 14, 1882, on a farm 6 miles northeast of Arlington and baptized December 25 of the same year. On April 11, 1897, he was confirmed in his christian faith at St. Paul's Lutheran church. He was united with Miss Magda Siercks on February 26, 1914. His wife preceded him in death 17 years ago, January 29, 1920.

Mr. Hilgenkamp met with an accident, breaking his shoulderbone by a fall at Los Angeles, Calif., about six weeks ago. After returning to relatives at Arlington, staying at the home of one of his sisters, Mrs. Lena Echtenkamp, he suffered a stroke last Friday, July 2, which resulted in his death two days later, on July 4, 2:45 p.m. at the age of 54 years, 7 months and 20 days. He leaves two brothers, three sisters, his parents-in-law, brothers-and-sisters-in-law, and other relatives in large numbers.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. G. W. Welter, were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 at the home of Mrs. Lena Echtenkamp and at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 3 o'clock with an attendance of over 200 in spite of the pressing harvest work and the intense heat.

ARLINGTON MAN DIES SUNDAY

Eddie Hilgenkamp, age 54 years, died at Arlington on Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the home of his sister, Mrs. Lena Echtenkamp.

Mr. Hilgenkamp, who has been in California for several years, accidentally fell while there and sustained a broken collar bone. After spending about a week in the hospital, he made the trip here three weeks ago, and since that time has been ill at his sister’s home.

Mr. Hilgenkamp was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hilgenkamp, well known early pioneers of this vicinity, and was born here in 1883. He attended the German schools and was confirmed in the Lutheran church.

In February, 1914, he was united in marriage with Madga Siercks, and they resided on a farm near here. She preceded him in death 17 years ago.

Practically all of his life had been spent in Arlington and vicinity until the last few years when he had been in California.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the home of Mrs. Lena Echtenkamp, followed by the main services which were held at 3:00 o’clock at the St. Paul’s Lutheran church with the pastor, the Rev. C. W. Wolter in charge.

Mr. Hilgenkamp is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Lena Echtenkamp and Mrs. Tillie Walkenhorst, both of this place, and Mrs. A.A. Schorrman of Staplehurst, and two brothers, W.H. and Henry, both of Arlington.

Funeral services for Eddie Hilgenkamp were held at St. Paul’s Lutheran church on Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. G. W. Wolter officiating. Mr. Hilgenkamp died here on Sunday from a stroke which he suffered following a fall he had several weeks before in California when he broke his shoulder. Henry Edward Hilgenkamp was born on November 14, 1882 on a farm near here, and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hilgenkamp, prominent pioneers of this vicinity. He was married to Madga Siercks who died six years later. For several years Mr. Hilgenkamp has been living in California, and after his accident he left the hospital and came here to the home of his sister, Mrs. Lena Echtenkamp. The pallbearers were cousins and were Henry Giesselman, E. W. Hilgenkamp, Ed Scheer, Herman W. Hilgenkamp, Ed Giesselman and William Vogt. He is survived by two brothers, W. H. Hilgenkamp and Henry Hilgenkamp, both of Arlington; and three sisters: Mrs. A. A. Schorrman of Staplehurst; Mrs. Tillie Walkenhorst and Mrs. Lena Echtenkamp, both of this place. Among the out of town relatives who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. Otto Siercks of Grand Island; Rev. and Mrs. A. A. Schorrman of Staplehurst; Mr. and Mrs. George Siercks of Sioux City, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. William Siercks, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Siercks and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Reimer, all of Fremont.
