Raymond W. Hilgenkamp, 79, of Arlington, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington, with the Rev. Rick Kanoy officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, north of Arlington.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, and from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Raymond W. Hilgenkamp was born Oct. 30, 1922, in rural Arlington to Henry and Sophie (Kruger) Hilgenkamp. He grew up and lived in Arlington his entire life.

Mr. Hilgenkamp served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II from Jan. 27, 1945, until July 16, 1946. After the war he returned to Arlington, where he farmed until 1973. He then drove a gas tank wagon truck, and later sold farm-related products.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, V.F.W. Post No. 8332 and American Legion Post No. 71, both in Arlington.

He is survived by his two sons and a daughter-in-law, Mike Hilgenkamp of Omaha, and Greg and Susan Hilgenkamp of Fremont; daughter and son-in-law, Katy Hilgenkamp and Pat Sabin of Lincoln; sister and brother-in-law, Laurina and Leonard Sperling of Arlington; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Esther.

Memorials are suggested to the Grace Hospice.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington is in charge of arrangements.
