Funeral services for Verna Hilgenkamp, 76, of Arlington, will be held at 11 a.m. Tursday, Nov. 1, 2001, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington. The Rev. Rick Kanoy will officiate. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery. Mrs. Hilgenkamp died Sunday, Oct. 28, at the A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

Verna Hilgenkamp was born Nov. 5, 1924, in rural Hooper to Otto and Lydia (Wittman) Hoegermeyer. She grew up north of Hooper and graduated from Hooper High School.

On Feb. 23, 1947, she married Gilbert Hilgenkamp at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Hooper. Following their marriage, the couple farmed northeast of Arlington.

Mrs. Hilgenkamp was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, St. Paul’s Quilter’s group, and the Happy Hour Extension Club.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Arlen and Susan Hilgenkamp of Grand Island, Duane and Sue Hilgenkamp and Ronnie D. and Kay Hilgenkamp, all of Arlington, one brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Lillie Hoegermeyer of Fremont, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert, and a brother, Hugo Hoegermeyer.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Church or to the Arlington Multi-Purpose Over 60 Center.

Verna Margaretha Marie Hilgenkamp, the daughter of Otto and Lydia (Wittman) Hoegermeyer, was born November 5, 1924 at rural Hooper, Nebraska. She was baptized on November 23, 1924 and confirmed into the Lutheran faith on July 24, 1938 at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Hooper. She grew up north of Hooper and was a graduate of Hooper High School. Verna married Gilbert Hilgenkamp on February 23, 1947 at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Hooper. After her marriage, the couple lived and farmed northeast of Arlington.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, north of Arlington, the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and St. Paul’s Quilters Group. She was also a member of the Happy Hour Extension Club.

Verna passed from this life on Sunday, October 28, 2001 at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont, Nebraska at the age of 76 years, 11 months and 23 days. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Arlen and Susan Hilgenkamp of Grand Island, NE, Duane and Sue Hilgenkamp and Ronnie D. and Kay Hilgenkamp, all of Arlington; brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Lillie Hoegermeyer of Fremont; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, who died June 8, 1987; and brother, Hugo Hoegermeyer.
