ARLINGTON BUSINESS MAN DIED WED.

C. E Whitaker, well known businessman of Arlington, passed away Wednesday night of this week. No arrangements for the funeral have been made. He has a son in England, a daughter residing in Craig, Nebraska, and a daughter-in-law in Altona, Iowa.

He has been a resident of Arlington for the past sixteen or eighteen years.

Arlington Merchant is Dead-Shoe and Leather Store Owner Had Been Ill Since April

C. E. Whitaker, 69, died late Wednesday evening September 27 at his home at the result of an illness which began in April. Funeral services were held for the well-known Arlington businessman on Saturday, at the Arlington Congregational Church and interment was in the Arlington Cemetery.

Born January, 3, 1874, in Independence, Wisc., Mr. Whitaker came to Nebraska at the age of 12. He was married to Miss Harriet Hudson of Plattsmouth in 1903.

Surviving are the widow; two children, St. Sgt. Maurice Whitaker, in England, and Mrs. Walter Ponds, of Craig; also, two brothers, Harry of Omaha and Arthur of Bagley, Ga.; and several grandchildren. One child died in infancy.

ARLINGTON BUSINESSMAN WAS BURIED SAT.

ARLINGTON - Funeral services for C. E. Whitaker, prominent businessman of Arlington, were held on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock with the Rev. R. J. Toms and Rev. H. C. Van Valkenburgh in charge of the services. Business houses were closed during the services.

Mr. Whitaker took an active interest in all civic affairs and was vice president of the Community Club this year, having also served in other offices of that organization.

Born in Independence, Wisconsin January 3, 1874, he came to Nebraska at the age of 12 years. He had lived for the past 15 years operating a shoe and leather store.

He is survived by his widow; one son, S/Sgt. Maurice Whitaker, now in England; one daughter, Mrs. Walter Ponds of Craig; and three grandchildren. Two brothers, Harry Whitaker of Omaha and Arthur Whitaker of Bagley, Georgia also survive.

Mrs. Howard Marshall and Mrs. Leonard Wulf sang a duet, “The Lord Is My Shepherd”; and Therlo Reckmeyer sang a solo, “The End of a Perfect Day”. Mrs. Alice Newcom was accompanist. Pallbearers were C. C. Cook, A. A. Hahlbeck, R. C. Ludwig, O. H Lowe, H. C. McClellan and Homer Miller.
