Samuel Thomas Axtell was born April 11, 1859, in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, and passed away on June 14, 1941, at a Norfolk hospital, having passed his eighty-second birth anniversary.

He was married on August 26, 1888, at Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Bertha Raner and to them seven children were born, all of whom are living and with the wife deeply mourn his passing. The children are Leonard, Chris and Orville of Blair; Lester of Standard, California; Mrs. Leona Servis, McAllister, Oklahoma; Mrs. Sarah Gilliam and Lulu Osborne of Blair. Five brothers also survive, James and Daniel of Missouri Valley; John of Seattle, Washington; Richard of Council Bluffs; and George of Wewela, South Dakota; also two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Roberts and Mrs. Leona Holland of Pond De Creek, Missouri.

The family have made Blair their home since 1914 having moved here from Iowa where deceased had resided since a small boy.

He was a member of the Christian Church and at the funeral rites, which were held Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. from the Campbell Mortuary, Rev. T. A. Lindenmeyer of the local Christian Church officiated. Interment was made in the Blair Cemetery.
