D. Z. Mummert 73, Dies at His Home Here-Well-known Blair Businessman Is Victim of Heart Attack

D. Z. Mummert, know in the business circles of Blair since 1888, passed quietly away Wednesday evening, May 14th, at about seven o’clock, the victim of a heart attack. He had been ill at his home on South Street for about three weeks before the end came.

Deceased was born in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, in 1867 and when a young man of 21 years came to Blair and entered the law office of W. C. Walton. He was admitted to the bar in 1890 and for fourteen years practiced his profession.

In 1904 he left the practice of law and with others opened the Citizens State Bank of which he was cashier. He sold his interests in the bank in 1915 in order to have leisure to care for his private business.

On November 11, 1891, he was married to Miss Mary E. Pound, and they settled in the home on South Street which they still occupy. To them two children were born, David and Mrs. Gretchen Reeder, both of Blair.

Mr. Mummert was a man of ability and was held in high esteem by not only his business colleagues but by all who came in contact with him, and he was much admired for his sterling manhood. He and his wife had spent much time of late years in travel and found great comfort in their trips to places of interest.

He leaves the wife and the son and daughter to mourn his passing and a host of old friends in Blair who will miss his timely counsel.

The funeral services will be held Friday, May 16, at 1:30 o’clock from the Bendorf Funeral Home and interment will be made in the Blair Cemetery.
