LONGTIME BLAIR RESIDENT, 79, DIED AT NOON TODAY NEAR HERE

August Rathmann, 79, well-known Blair resident for more than 60 years, died at noon today at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Will Linden, south of Blair. He had been bedfast since December 5.

Surviving are his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Linden of Blair, Mrs. D.C. Fratt and Mrs. Helen Richardson of Los Angeles, and Mrs. R.C. Cook of Sioux City. Also surviving are four brothers, G.A., Chris, Henry and John Rathmann, and two sisters, Mrs. Peter Soll and Mrs. Mary Anderson.

The body is at the Campbell Mortuary pending funeral arrangements. A complete obituary will be published next week.

August Rathmann, well known Washington County resident since 1861, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Will Linden, last Thursday after an illness of ten weeks.

Mr. Rathmann, during his lifetime had lived continuously in this vicinity since coming here at the age of two from Holstein, Germany in 1861. He has been both businessman and farmer and was widely known.

Rathmann was born October 17, 1859, in Holstein, Germany. He came to America with his parents at the age of two years and settled at Blair. Mr. Rathmann was a pioneer of Washington County having made his home here for 78 years.

The deceased was married to Miss Carolina Soll, of Davenport, Iowa, on April 14, 1885, the couple having celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1935.

At the time of his death, Mr. Rathmann was 79 years, 2 months and 26 days of age.

The survivors include his wife, four daughters, Mr. W. C. Linden of Blair, Mrs. Raymond C. Cook of Sioux City, Iowa, Mrs. D. C. Fratt and Mrs. Alden Richardson of Los Angeles, California; four brothers, Gus A. and Chris of Blair, Henry of Scribner, John of Lebanon, Oregon; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Anderson and Mrs. Peter Soll of Blair; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Campbell Mortuary and burial was made in the Blair Cemetery.
