LYDIA HOEGEMEYER

LYONS—Lydia Hoegemeyer, 81, of Lyons, died Tuesday, July 16, 1991, at Logan Valley Manor in Lyons.

Miss Hoegemeyer was born Jan. 1, 1910, in Lyons. She attended grade school in South Dakota, and attended St. John’s parochial school and Viles School, both in rural Lyons.

She transcribed sermons and Sunday school lessons into Braille, which were then sent around the United States and to the West Indies. She raised chickens for their eggs and was a seamstress. She moved to Logan Valley Manor in 1989.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lyons, the Lutheran Women Missionary League and taught Sunday School for 18 years.

Survivors include three brothers, Bernard and Marvin, both of Lyons, and Gilbert of West Point; and a sister, Fern (Mrs. Harlan) Stork of Arlington.

She was preceded in death by a sister.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Lyons. The Rev. William Prewitt will officiate. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Piper Funeral Home in Lyons and an hour before the service at church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
