James Thompson, 59, Long a McCarthy Farmer, Buried Yesterday

James S. Thompson, 59, life-time farmer in the McCarthy neighborhood south of Blair, died Monday morning at Blair hospital. In poor health for several years, he was not bedfast until the past week.

The body was taken to the Bendorf Funeral Home, where the rosary was recited Tuesday evening. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. yesterday at St. Francis Borgia Catholic church, the Rev. Thomas Carmody officiating and interment followed in Holy Cross cemetery here. Pallbearers were James P. Mulin, John Sully, Lynn Armstrong, Hans M. Andersen, Edward Natter, and Ray Krogh. Mrs. Raymond Carroll of Laurel sang during the services.

Youngest of the nine children of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Thompson, Mr. Thompson was born May 31, 1883, on the old Thompson farm south of Blair. He attended McCarthy school. He and Mary L. Barry were married February 17, 1909, at Holy Family church in Council Bluffs, then returned to the McCarthy community, where they have since resided. For seven years Mr. Thompson had served as a Blair township AAA committeeman.

Surviving Mr. Thompson are his wife; two sons, Bernard Thompson of Kennard and James Thompson, Jr., of Long Beach, California; two daughters, Mrs. Jerry Jordan (Eileen) and Miss Margaret Thompson, both of Blair; and three grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, John F. Thompson of Florence, and Dan and Frank Thompson of Blair.

Life-Long Resident Of This County Was Prominent Farmer

In poor health for several years, but not bedfast until the past week, James S. Thompson passed away early Monday morning, February 22, at the Blair Hospital.

He was the youngest of nine children of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Thompson, pioneers of the county. He was born May 31, 1883, on the old home place 2 1/2 miles south of Blair. He attended school in the McCarthy school district where he lived all of his life.

On February 17, 1909 he was married to Mary L. Barry at the Holy Family Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He has served as a committeeman of the AAA for Blair Township for the past seven years.

Surviving him of his immediate family are his wife, two sons - Bernard of Kennard and James of Long Beach, California - and two daughters - Mrs. Jerry Jordan and Miss Margaret Thompson, both of Blair; also three grandchildren. Besides these, three brothers, John of Florence, Dan and Frank of Blair also survive.

Funeral services under the direction of Chris K. Bendorf were held on Wednesday, February 24, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Blair, and interment was made in the Holy Cross cemetery at Blair. Pallbearers were James Mullin, John Sully, Lynn Armstrong, Hans M. Andersen, Edward Natter and Ray Krogh.

Mrs. Raymond Carroll of Laurel, Nebraska furnished music at the funeral mass.

A number of friends from Walthill and Omaha attended the services.
