Mrs. Utterback Dies At Arlington-Had Six Children of Own and Mothered Four Others

Mrs. Elmer Utterback died at her home at Arlington early Thursday morning, April 6, after a serious illness of only a few days, although her health had not been good for the past year. She was 31 years old.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at two o’clock at the Methodist Church and were conducted by the pastor, Rev. A. J. Edgar. A quartet, composed of Mesdames Alfred Rosenkilde and Dora Ladwig and W. A. Reckmeyer and J. H. Dorbecker sang, “Beautiful Garden of Prayer,” “God Will Take Care of You,” and “Sometime We’ll Understand.” Burial was made in the Arlington Cemetery.

As Rose Hanslip, Mrs. Utterback was born September 30, 1901, at Tekamah, where her early childhood was spent. She later moved with her parents to Kansas, returning in a few years to Nebraska, where the family located at Arlington.

She was married January 27, 1921 to Elmer Utterback and to the union six children were born, one of whom, Lawrence, died in early childhood. In addition to rearing her own family, Mrs. Utterback had been a mother to three motherless children of a brother-in-law and to the motherless child of her brother.

Surviving Mrs. Utterback are her husband, five children, the oldest of who is 10 years, her mother, five brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services for Mrs. Elmer Utterback were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Methodist church at Arlington. Rev. Adrian J. Edgar, assisted by Rev. H. C. Van Valkenburgh, conducted the rites.

Mrs. Utterback, as Rose Hanslip, was born in Tekamah Sept. 30, 1902. Her early girlhood was spent in that vicinity, also four years in Kansas. Later the family moved here, and on January 27, 1921 she was married to Elmer Utterback. They were the parents of six children, one of whom preceded his mother in death five years ago. Besides her own family, Mrs. Utterback was raising four children of relatives. Although she had been in poor health for a year, she had been seriously ill for only about a week. She is survived by her husband and five children: Floyd, 10; Lloyd, 9; Kenneth, 6; Phyliss, 5; and Carlan, 3. Her mother, Mrs. Margaret Hanslip of Fremont; five brothers: Harry H. Hanslip and Floyd James Hanslip of Gillett, Wyo; Fred Hanslip of Fremont; Robert B. Hanslip of Kit Carson, Colo; Walter H. Hanslip of Arlington; four sisters: Mrs. Grace Wallingford and Mrs. Pearl Bogenrief of Fremont; Mrs. Margaret Hutchins of Lowry City, Mo; and Mrs. Eva Straw of Clinton, Ia. also survive.

A quartet composed of Mrs. A. C. Rosenkilde, Mrs. Dora Ludwig, J. H. Dorbecker and W. A. Reckmeyer, accompanied by Miss Catherine Winset, sang. The pallbearers were Louis, Laurence, Lloyd, Millard and Robert Utterback and W. L. Hinley. Burial was made in the Arlington cemetery.
