PASSING OF MRS. BRUSE

After an illness covering a period of thirty days or more, Mrs. Magdalene M. Bruse, wife of August Bruse, departed this life on Wednesday morning, Dec. 20, having been unconscious since the preceeding Sunday.

Mrs. Bruse, whose maiden name was Magdalene Marguerita Buttonscholn, was born Oct 23, 1842 at Tinttbutl, Holstein, Germany, and was united in marriage to August Bruse, in 1868, in the state of New York, shortly after arriving in America. She and her husband have been residents of Blair for fifteen years, and have lived in the county since 1868, and reared a family of nine children; Mrs. Peter Reeh, living near Blair; Henry, of Pueblo; Ludwig, of Placies, Texas; Mrs. Henry Rathmann, of Scribner; John, Hoskins; Albert, of Omaha; and George and Mrs. Chris Winters, of this city.

Deceased was a highly respected woman, a model wife and mother, a good friend and kind neighbor, whose influence was always wielded for good.

The funeral is held today at 2 p.m. from the German Lutheran church, Rev. A.W. Lambrecht conducting the obsequies. The sympathy of a large circle of friends is extended to the bereaved husband and family.

MRS. AUGUST BRUSE DEAD

As we go to press word reaches us of the death of Mrs. August Bruse, who had been in a very critical condition for several weeks past.

Mr. and Mrs. Bruse are well known to Washington county people and the news of her death will be received by a large circle of friends with very deep sorrow.

We learn that the funeral is to be held at the German church in this city on Friday afternoon but have been unable to get the hour.

Mrs. August Bruse died at 4:15 this morning, Dec, 20th, 1916, at the family home on west Lincoln street after an illness of about four weeks, from a tumor on the liver. She was only seriously ill for the past week. She became unconscious Sunday afternoon but the end did not come until an early hour this morning. The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the German Lutheran church, Rev. A.W. Lambrecht officiating. Magdalene Marguerita Buttenscholn was born at Tinttbutl, Holstein, Germany, Oct. 24, 1842. She came to America with her betrothed, August Bruse, and they were married as soon as they landed in New York. They arrived in Ft. Calhoun in July, 1868, and that same fall bought out a homestead relinquishment and settled on the farm three miles northwest of town, where they made their home until 1901, when they moved to this city. There are nine children as follows: Mrs. Peter Reeh, of Blair township, Henry, of Pueblo, Colo., Ludwig, of Placies, Texas, Mrs. Henry Rathmann, of Scribner, Mrs. Jacob Sierk, of Ft. Calhoun, Mrs. John Bruse, of Hoskins, Neb., George of this city, Albert, of Omaha, and Mrs. Chris Winters, of this city. All of the children will be here for the funeral, the first to be held in this large family. There are nineteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Bruse will be 79 the 20th of next February, and the two had been living alone since George was married. Mrs. Winters had been staying with them most of the time since her husband went out with Co. F last spring.
