Joanne M. Swanson Massa, 88, of Warren, Pa., died Tuesday morning, Feb. 19, 2019, at Allegheny Health Network-St. Vincent, Erie, Pa., after a brief illness.

She was born Oct. 8, 1930, in Warren, Pa. Joanne was the daughter of Carl and Emma Manning Swanson. She was a lifelong Warren resident. She was a member of St. Joseph R.C. Church, Red Hat Society, Warren Women’s Club. She was a volunteer with the Warren Public Library Association and Kinzua Valley Auxiliary. She was an avid Bridge Player.

Joanne is survived by her six children, Toni Loomis and husband, Chuck of N. Warren, Pa., Michele Allen and husband, Kevin of Irvine, Pa., Renee Sperry and husband, Skip of Akeley, Pa., Anne Rich and husband, Martin of Jamestown, N.Y., Samuel J. Massa, Jr., and his wife, Gayle of N. Warren, Pa., Peter Massa and his wife, Laurie, of Omaha; three stepchildren, Joan Cornelius of Warren, Pa., Dolores Grogan of Charlotte, N.C., Ronald Massa of Warren, PA.; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; several cousins; nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel J. Massa, Sr., whom she married Dec. 12, 1950, in Las Vegas, Nev.; one grandson, Christopher Sperry; one step-daughter, Barbara Miller, and her brother, Robert C. Swanson, Sr.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph R.C. Church, 600 Pennsylvania Avenue, West, Warren, Pa. on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019, at 2 p.m. with Fr. Richard Tomasone, Pastor, officiating.
