Greene, John, age 80, formerly of Omaha, died June 4, 2014 in Kalispell, MT, after a short illness, beginning with pneumonia, “an old man’s friend”. He was born on January 4, 1934 to Charles Lee and Grace Beulah (Duff) Greene in Omaha, Nebraska. John graduated from high school in Fremont, NE. He then attended Wayne State College in Wayne, NE and completed his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nebraska. He graduated from Nebraska Medical School in 1958. Also in 1958, he married Joan Ruth Fryman on June 22, 1958 in Blair, NE. He completed his internship at Indianapolis General Hospital, Indianapolis, IN. In addition, he served in the U.S. Army from January 1961 through June 1963. After his military service, he completed his neurological surgery residence at the University of Iowa in 1967. John’s career included a family practice in Audobon, Iowa for 1½ years and a neurosurgery practice in Omaha, NE from which he retired in 1996, after 28 years. John’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, and crossword puzzles. He fulfilled his lifelong dream of going on an African safari with his wife Joan, son George and grandson Harrison. He was dedicated to his church, and participated in the Dirt Bags Bible study and local mission work. He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Rotary Club, AMA, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, and on the Glacier Presbyterian camp board. John was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Grace Greene, and loving cousins, Keith and Pat O’Brien. He is survived by his wife Joan, Lakeside, MT; son George and wife Christine, Omaha, NE; daughter, Maria and husband Gary, Great Falls, MT; grandchildren Harrison, Charles, Walker, Olivia, Bryn and husband Kevin, and Brooke; brother, Charles Gordon, LeMars, IA; cousin, Joy Lloyd, Loudenville, NY.

A Celebration of John’s Life will be held Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 11am, at the Benson Presbyterian Church, 56th and Corby, Omaha, NE
