Edward C. McGill, 91

Edward C. McGill, 91, died Thursday, July 28th, 2011, in Garland, Texas.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 2, at St.. Patrick's Catholic Church in Elkhorn. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Omaha with a luncheon to follow.

Edward C. McGill was born May 5, 1920, in McGregor, Iowa, to Leo and Catherine (Parker) McGill

. He married Mildred Jones on Feb. 22, 1943, and enjoyed 63 years of marriage. They lived in McGregor until 1968, when they moved to Bennington, where they lived for 32 years. Their final move was to Garland in June of 2000.

Mr. McGill farmed in eastern Iowa for many years. He later drove truck for Transit Homes traveling the country in the late ‘60s and ‘70s. He worked for both John Deere and Bennington schools where he made and still has many wonderful friends. Most of all, he enjoyed being a handyman. He often worked in his woodshop for hours. He could fix anything and had a story about everything. He had many experiences and enjoyed sharing them with friends and family. His most cherished creations were the toys he made for his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Cathy Pitt of Blair, and Michael (Kathleen) McGill of Garland; grandchildren and spouses,Theresa (Jason) Pierce, Tony (Amy) Rosterman, Jim (Sarah) Rosterman, Carleen (William) Chisman, Monica (Michael) Flores, and Kayla (Glenn) Wagers; 16 great-grandchildren: Kalvin, Griffin, Emmet, Erica, Aaron, Adam, Abigail, Masson, Mailey, Maddox, Maya, Bryce, Braydon, Avery, Annie Grace, and Elena; sisters and brother-in-law, Leona Auterman of West Union, Iowa, Edith and Ed Laufer of Omaha, Patricia White of Monticello, Iowa; and brothers and sister-in-law, Joe and Mary McGill of Denver, Colo., and Ray McGill of Winston, Ga. He will be missed by all, including a countless number of friends, nieces and nephews and their families.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Dave and Jim, and sisters Mary (McMillin), Genevieve (Miller), and Arlie (Orzolek).
