JESSE COULTER

Jesse Coulter was born at Mount Pleasant, Jay County, Indiana on Nov. 28th, 1854. He passed from this life at his home near Arlington, Nebraska on October 8, 1933.

In the spring of 1855 he came with his parents to DeSoto, Nebraska in a covered wagon. It was on this trip that his mother died at Davenport, Iowa, and two years later his father died leaving him an orphan at the age of three years. From this time until manhood he lived with his brother, John Coulter, in the vicinity of DeSoto, Nebraska. While yet a small boy, he made a trip with his brother to Fort Kearney and in the course of the trip the party had an encounter with a band of Indians on the banks of a stream near the spot where Schuyler, Nebraska is now located. A fierce battle ensued, and the picture which was most vividly (this is all we have of this obit)
