Art Gustason Dies in California

Arthur D. Gustason, 65, passed away in San Bernardino, California, on Monday April 8, 1957. He was born to James J. Gustason and Leatsey Johnson at Oakland, Nebraska on April 1, 1892, but moved with his parents to Blair when still a baby. He attended the Blair City Schools and was married to Jessie Rogers. Three children were born to them. They are Wm. J. Gustason, now of Daggett, California, Mrs. J. H. Kempthorne (Maxine) of Spokane, Washington and Mrs. Ray George (Jane) of Rialto, California. Mrs. Gustason passed away in 1917.

Mr. Gustason later married Martha Anderson and three children were born to them: Mrs. Raymond D. Henry (Gloria) of Peru, Nebraska, Dale and Gerrilee of San Bernardino.

While in Blair Mr. Gustason operated a grocery store in Dexterville and later owned and managed the Art’s Auto Parts business. Four and a half years ago he and his wife moved to California where he was a RV salesman.

He had been ill with heart troubles for several years and was taken suddenly ill a week ago with other complications which caused his death.

Besides his wife, Martha and his six children he is survived by 8 grandchildren and 4 sisters, Mrs. Ray Hewett (Pearl) of Blair, Mrs. Louis Jensen (Hazel) of Hamburg, Iowa, Mrs. A. W. Sittler (Thelma) and Mrs. John Sylvis (Lela) both of Omaha.

Funeral services were held in San Bernardino Wednesday and on Saturday afternoon services will be held in Blair at the First Lutheran Church a 2 p.m. with Rev. H. C. Jorgensen officiating. The Bendorf Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and burial in the Blair Cemetery. The V.F.W. and American Legion firing squad will have services at the graveside. Pallbearers will be Ray Krogh, Stanley Bednar, Lester Wheeler, Pierce Allen, Carroll Thornburgh, and Leslie Offen. ~~~Obituary courtesy of the Washington County Genealogical Society.
