Raymond Smith Passes Away

Word was received Sunday by relatives that Raymond O. Smith passed away in Los Angeles, California, Saturday, Nov. 30, AT 5:20 p.m.

Raymond Oliver, the ninth child of the late John George and Olive J. Smith was born in Blair, August 28, 1888 and was 52 years old at the time of his death. He was reared and educated in Blair and was graduated from the Blair High School in 1906 and from the University of Nebraska in 1915. He united with the First Baptist Church September 26,1902.

After his marriage, July 22, 1911 to Carrie A. Byers of this city, he taught agriculture in the Geneva High School, and later they moved to Kansas where he was county agricultural agent in Wilson and Douglas Counties. In 1922 they moved to California where they have since resided. Ray has held positions as bookkeeper and accountant for several dairy and creamery companies in California, but for the last few years, on account of ill health, has been in business for himself, manufacturing and selling ice cream. In his youth Ray was well-known and respected in this community and has many friends here and in California.

He leaves his wife, Carrie A. of Los Angeles and one son, Oakley Oliver, of Long Beach; four sisters, Frances M. and J. Grace Smith of Blair; Mrs. Luvia E. Cox of Farragut, Iowa; Mrs. Edith Hawkins of Klamath Falls, Oregon; two brothers, William F. and Burtis B. Smith of Omaha. Preceding him in death are his father John George and three brothers, J. Philip, George A. and Chester S. Smith and just last December, his mother, Olive J. nearly 93 years of age.
