Preceded in death by his wife, Shirley and son James Bendorf. He is survived by his children, Col. Craig (Patricia) Bendorf, retired USAF, Susan (Andrew) Marino, Linda Bendorf and four grandchildren. An Omaha resident for nearly 85 years, Don attended Creighton Prep High School (1941-1944) and served a year in the U.S. Coast Guard (1945-1946); he then attended Creighton University and graduated from Creighton School of Medicine (1946-1952). He married Shirley Mitchell on Feb. 21, 1952. After an internship in Omaha and residency in Schuyler, NE., Don started his first private practice in Butte, NE. (1954) in general family medicine and surgery; then returned to Omaha in 1959 to continue surgical training and private practice. Before retiring in 1993, he spent over 27 years in family and surgical medicine and 14 years in Emergency Room work, while also part of the medical staff at Union Pacific Railroad. Don was a life long learner, avid reader and world traveler. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, carpentry, flying (private pilot), photography, woodcarving, genealogy and many memorable family camping and canoe trips. His generous nature and dry sense of humor will be greatly missed by friends and family.
