Han Mathiesen, Sr., a resident of this county since 1880, died at his home four miles southwest of Herman of Friday, March 1, at the age of 79 years.

Deceased was born in Denmark on November 25, 1860, and came to American in 1880. On October 20, 1882 he was married to Miss Hannah Knag. Eight children were born to this union, one of whom died in infancy.

Besides the wife he is survived by his seven children, Thomas of Walthill, Nebraska; Louis and Hans, Jr., of Herman; Mrs. Anna Fryman, Mrs. Hannah Wilson, and Mrs. Mary Kegler of Blair and Mrs. Pearl Nelsen of Herman; also two brothers, Fritz Mathiesen of Blair and Martin of Florence and sixteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at the home, where Mrs. Mathiesen lies bedfast, on last Sunday and at the First Lutheran Church in Blair that afternoon with Rev. Harold C. Jorgensen officiating and interment was made in the Blair Cemetery.

Thus another early settler has been called. As a citizen he was of the highest type, breaking no law of God or man and leaving a heritage to his family rich in memories of a life well spent.
