Death Takes Jesse Ryan-82-Year-Old Herman Native Spent All Life in this and Burt Counties

Jesse Ryan, 82, native of Herman and a lifetime resident of that area, died last Wednesday night at the Blair Convalescent Home, where he had been a patient for several months. Mr. Ryan suffered a broken hip in a fall 20 months ago.

Son of James and Nancy Lamb Ryan, pioneer countians, he spent his entire life in Washington and Burt Counties as a farmer>

He and Catherine Burwell were married Feb. 2, 1898, and she died six years later. To this union four children were born. On Mar. 9, 1905, Mr. Ryan was married to Augusta Mencke, and to them one daughter was born. Mr. Ryan is survived by his wife, Augusta; one son, Harold Ryan of Osceola, Ia.; and two daughters, Mrs. John Hook (Leatha) of Saginaw, Mich., and Mrs. Truman Waugh (Hazel) of Lincoln. One son and one daughter preceded him in death.

Also surviving Mr. Ryan are eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; four brothers, Van H. of Norfolk, John and Will of Omaha and James of Blair and three sisters, Mrs. Rudolph Mencke (Mell) of Blair, Mrs. Mike Larson (Nan) of Omaha and Mrs. Clarence Jensen (Addie) of Fremont.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Herman Baptist Church, with the Rev. Glenn Emmert of Malvern, Ia., officiating, with arrangements in charge of the Truhlsen Funeral Home, was in the Blair Cemetery. Pallbearers were nephews, Melvern Larson, James Ryan, Gene Ryan, Russell Ryan, James Mencke and Milo Jensen.
