MRS. J.C. WACHTER OF HERMAN IS DEAD

Rites Held On Wednesday For Pioneer; Survived By Nine Daughters

Mrs. J.C. Wachter, pioneer resident of the Herman community, died at her home there Sunday, April 9, after a lingering illness. Funeral services for Mrs. Wachter were held Wednesday at two o’clock at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Annie Peddie, in Herman.

Surviving Mrs. Wachter are nine daughters. They are Mrs. James VanHorn, Miss Caroline Wachter, Mrs. Anna Peddie, Miss Christine Wachter and Mrs. Otis Yowell, all of Herman; Mrs. D. Hansen of Elkhorn, Mrs. Pete Hansen of Omaha, Mrs. Birdie Niederkruger of Lincoln, and Mrs. Clayton Denver of Gillette, Wyoming. Also surviving are two sons, John and Ben Wachter, both of Herman.

Funeral services for Mrs. Emma J. Wachter, who died Sunday afternoon at 2:30 were held at the home here Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Interment was made in the local cemetery. Emma Hugelman was born in Baden, Germany, June 4, 1845 and died at her home in Herman April 9, 1933 at the age of 87 years, ten month(s) and 6 days. She came to American when a young girl and met and married Chris Wachter in Illinois. Soon after their marriage they came to Nebraska and were among the pioneer residents of this locality living on a farm, west of here until several years ago when they moved into town to spend their declining days. Mr. Wachter passed away several years ago. To this union thirteen children were born. Two have preceded her in death, one son Emil and a daughter, Minnie. Left to mourn her passing are two sons, John and Ben of Herman; nine daughters, Mrs. Anna Peddie, Mrs. Claudena VanHorn, Miss Caroline Wachter, Miss Christene Wachter, Mrs. Hilda Yowell, all of Herman; Mrs. Emma Hansen, of Omaha; Mrs. Ida Hansen of Elkhorn, Nebr.; Mrs. Bertha Neiderkruger of Lincoln; Mrs. Freda Deaver of Gillette, Wyo.; a number of grandchildren and other relatives and a host of friends. Mrs. Christene Hugelman, of Herman is a sister-in-law.
