J. L. Edwards Old Settler Here Is Death Victim-Resided in Blair Since 1883-Known for His Sterling Qualities

In the passing of J. L. Edwards, Blair has lost another of her old settlers and a man of most conscientious scruples.

He was born at Mr. Pleasant, Iowa, on November 1, 1856, and there he spent his boyhood days on a farm. He was married to Elizabeth Tracy of Mt. Pleasant on November 13, 1877.

To this union two sons, were born, Jesse Pearl and John Curtis, Curtis being the only survivor. Pearl having died July 13, 1912 and the wife having passed away on November 29, 1921.

The family moved to Blair in 1883 and they continued to make Blair their home until the death of Mrs. Edwards on January 8, 1938.

Deceased was a member of Modern Woodmen of America, the knights of Pythias and for the past forty years a member and constant attendant of the Methodist Church. As a member of the church he held many positions of importance and he never shirked a duty.

To these who knew the deceased a deep and sincere feeling of respect is felt. He was of a quiet unassuming character who always tried to live the life of a true Christian.

He remarried after the death of his first wife to Mrs. L. Eva Gundy who survives and with the son grieves deeply his death. He had been in excellent health until last May when he suffered a light stroke from which he did not fully recover and which finally ended in death.

Funeral services were held on Monday, January 10, with a short service at the home and services at the Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. R. P. Rasmussen officiating. Interment was made in the Blair Cemetery.
