County Attorney Loses Little Daughter Sunday

Little Marguerite, only daughter of County Attorney and Mrs. Henry Mencke, passed away Sunday, December 30, 1917. She was taken sick Wednesday evening but was not considered seriously ill until Saturday afternoon when the attending physicians pronounced it diphtheria.

Everything possible was done but to no avail and Marguerite breathed her last shortly afternoon on Sunday, conscious to the last. She leaves to mourn her loss, father, mother, brother and other relatives, besides hosts of friends.

Frances Marguerite Mencke was born in Amherst, Nebr., March 10, 1910, coming to Blair with her parents in 1912, and living here until her death, being at the time 7 years, 9 months and one day old.

Her unusually sweet and sunny disposition endeared her to all and she will be sadly mourned and missed, not only by her sorrowing relatives, but also by her friends and teachers and playmates. She always look on the bright side and had a smile for everyone.

The wealth of flowers sent were mute testimony to the universal love in which she was held.

The family have the deep sympathy of the whole community, the more so, that on account of the quarantine they were deprived of the consolation of the presence of friends and relatives. Marguerite was laid to rest in the Blair Cemetery at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, Rev. W. H. Underwood officiating.
