The remains of Joel D. Parish, who died at the soldiers home at Grand Island last week, were laid to rest in the cemetery at that place Friday, following an illness of several weeks. Mr. Parish was 88 years old, having been born in Wisconsin in 1842. During the Civil war, he served as a corporal in Company I, 19th Wisconsin infantry, from Feb. 3, 1862, to Feb. 8, 1864, and with Co. D., same regiment, from Feb. 9, 1864, to August 9, 1865. He was admitted to membership at the Burkett institution December 1, 1913, from Blair, Neb. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lucy A. Parish, of Burkett, a daughter, Mrs. Thomas Osterman, of Blair, a son, Lloyd Parish, of Westport, Ore., and a granddaughter, Miss Agnes Parish, of Omaha. ~~~ Obituary courtesy of the Washington County Genealogical Society.
