DEATH OF A FORMER BLAIRITE

John Zehrung, a well-known resident of this part of the state in the early seventies, died at Los Angeles March 11, 1908. In 1869, the year that Blair was founded, Mr. Zehrung was one of the first to come and open up a drug store here, and in 1871 he put the first drug store in Tekamah as a branch of his Blair house.

In 1874 Mr. Zehrung removed to Lincoln where for a number of years he was a prominent business factor, and assisted in developing the city in many ways. When the panic of 1893 came on Mr. Zehrung pulled out for the west and later located in San Francisco, where he was conducting a good business at the time of the earthquake and subsequent fire which swept away much of his fortune and also his health, for he contracted a cold at the time from exposure by sleeping on the ground, developed into quick consumption, which was the cause of death at this time.

His remains were brought back to Lincoln for interment. His son, Frank is still a resident of Lincoln and manager of the Oliver theatre.
