RITES HELD TUESDAY FOR JOHN S. HOOKS, 45

Succumbs After Long Illness. Native of County. Farm Bureau Member

PROMINENT FARMER

John S. Hooks, forty-five years of age, died at his home early Sunday morning, after an illness of a year’s duration of heart trouble which caused a stroke. Deceased was a native of Washington county and died on the farm on which he lived all his life with the exception of seven years. His mother preceded him in death last August.

He was married October 28, 1914 to Miss Bertha Jacobsen and to them three children were born, two sons and one daughter, Leo, 19 years of age, Ray 17 and Margie aged 2 and these with the wife are grief stricken at the early death of their father and husband.

Besides his immediate family he leaves his father, R.A. Hooks and two sisters, Mrs. Peter Hagge and Mrs. Hjalmer Quist who with the family feel the great sorrow and loss of one who had always been all that could be asked of a son and brother.

For years Mr. Hooks was active in the dairy business and scientific farming was his hobby and he made it pay even in the years of depression. He also had time to take part in the activities relative to farm improvement. He was a charter member of the Washington County Farm Bureau and a member of its board since its organization. He was also a member of the Burt-Washington Co-operative Oil Co. and took an active part in its interest.

He was not only a good farmer, and a good business man, but also a good neighbor, a good friend and a good citizen and he will not only be missed by his family and immediate friends but his influence will be missed in his community.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Methodist Church with Rev. T.J. Reese of the Baptist church officiating. The ceremonies were attended by the Masonic body of which he was a member and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.

The pallbearers were Earl Hurd, Glen Wilson, Everett Lamb, Merton Jensen, Victor Sutherland and John Sutherland, all neighbors and relatives of a lifetime.
