Burl B. Vaughan Dies Suddenly

Burl B. Vaughan, was born in Blair Dec. 28, 1891, on West Grant street. He was reared and educated in Blair and when the World War I broke out he joined the armed forces and during his service he rose to the rank of Second Lieutenant.

In 1923 he was married to Miss Helen Patterson of Denver and they came to Blair making their home in the house where he was born and which continued to be his home until his death.

Two daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Vaughan, Mrs. Virginia Blak of San Francisco and Miss Abbie Ann, who is engaged as Medical Technician for a group of physicians at Kearney.

Abbie Ann had spent the weekend at home and Mr. and Mrs. Vaughan had taken her as far as Fremont last Sunday on her return to her duties. She had just left Fremont when Mr. Vaughan, who had not been feeling well collapsed in the depot at that place.

Death was the result and the body was brought to Blair to the Bendorf Funeral Home. The daughters were at once notified and both came as quickly as possible.

For years the deceased had been a traveling salesman for the Gumfert Company of New York, handling bakers supplies and had proven himself a valuable man in the organization. He was a family man of no bad habits and the life of the family was one of contentment and happiness and the wife and the two daughters will miss him greatly. The loss irretrievable will always leave a sensation of lonliness in their lives.

One grandson, Paul Blak, now twenty months old is also left of the circle and will never realize the love and devotion that he will miss.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the St. Mary’s Episcopal church of which he was a vestryman with Father Stilwell officiating and interment under the supervision of the Bendorf Funeral Home, was made in the Blair cemetery.

At the grave his comrades in arms took charge and performed their ritualistic ceremony closing with their solmn taps as the body of their comrade was lowered to its final resting place.

The pallbearers chosen for the occasion were his lifelong friends, Ed Matthiesen, John F. Hansen, Chas. Gaydou, C. N. Robinson, Harry Morris and Rudolph Fick.
