D.A. SAPPENFIELD DIES AT AGE OF 83

BLAIR MAN SUCCUMBED AT HOME OF HIS SON IN THIS CITY WEDNESDAY

Brought back to Blair from Tecumseh early this week when he became seriously ill, D.A. Sappenfield, aged 83, died yesterday at the home of his son, Harry, on south Center Street.

David Andrew Sappenfield was born near Hickory Hill, Missouri, December 3, 1851, and spent the early part of his life there. On August 16, 1873, he was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Minor in Illinois, and two years later the couple came to Washington County, Nebraska, settling in the Rose Hill neighborhood. They were farmers for many years.

After his wife’s death April 5, 1890, Mr. Sappenfield moved into Blair and entered railroad work. For 19 years he had lived with his son, Harry.

Surviving are three sons, Harry of Blair, Walter of the Rose Hill neighborhood, and Lloyd of Tecumseh; and a daughter, Mrs. L.A. Munroe of Flin-Flon, Alberta, Canada. Two other daughters died in early life. Also surviving are two brothers, Harry, Gillsburg, Kansas; and Asa of Indiana; and a sister residing in Indiana.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at the Bendorf Funeral Home with Rev. D.A. McCullough of the Methodist church in charge. Interment will be at Pender.

DAVID ANDREW SAPPENFIELD DIES

David A. Sappenfield, aged 83 years, 4 months and 20 days, passed away at the home of his son, W. H. Sappenfield of this city o Wednesday morning, April 24th. A short time ago he went to Tecumseh to visit another son, and while there was taken ill and was brought to his home here on last Monday.

Deceased was born in Hickory Hill, Mo. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Minor on August 16, 1873 in Illinois, and two years later moved to Washington county. The family lived on a farm near Rose Hill until February, 1884 when, on account of his wife’s health, he moved to Seattle, Washington. On their return, the family lived near Arlington until 1888 when they moved to Pender, Nebr., where in 1890 the wife passed away.

After the death of the wife, the family moved to Blair in 1891 where they have since resided, and for the past nineteen years he has made his home with his son, W. H. Sappenfield.

To Mr. and Mrs. Sappenfield six children were born, one dying in infancy and another when at the age of 13 years. Those remaining are: W. H. and J. W. of Blair; L. E. of Tecumseh and Mrs. L. A. Monroe of Flin Flon, Canada. These children grieve deeply their father’s death. David A. Sappenfield was well known in this county and was universally loved for his sterling, upright qualities. Always cheerful, energetic and of a kindly disposition, he set an example of true manhood that all would do well to emulate, and he will be missed greatly, but his influence as a man will live long.

The funeral service will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock from the Bendorf funeral Home, and interment will be made beside his wife in Pender, Nebraska.
