Bettye J. Burmeister, 73, of Blair died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha.

Services were Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000 at the First United Methodist Church in Blair. Burial was in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.

Bettye J. Burmeister was born Sept. 20, 1926, to Hal and Alice (Kyle) Showalter in Demitt, Texas. She grew up in west Texas and New Mexico, graduating from high school in Idalou, Texas in 1943. She graduated from Daraughn Business School in Lubbock, Texas.

She was employed at the Air Force Base in Hobbs, N. M., where she met her husband, Arnold Burmeister.

On April 18, 1945, they were married in Hobbs, N. M. The couple moved to the Blair area in 1946 where they have resided since.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, VFW Auxiliary in Hobbs N. M., and the Washington County Extension Club. She loved to cook, and was employed as a cook and food service supervisor at Memorial Community Hospital for more than 20 years. She enjoyed collecting recipes, fishing crocheting and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband, four daughters and sons-in-laws, Kathy and Greg Megrue of Lincoln, Nancy and Joe Steele of Hartman, Ark., Jeanne and Roger Tranmer of Tekamah, and Julie and Kevin Porter of Hooper; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Fonda and Marion Purdum of Copan, Okla.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Randall Gene; a sister; and three brothers.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
