James Lowell Long age 94, of Blair, passed away April 1, 2019, at Carter Place in Blair. Memorial services will be held April 5, 2019, at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Blair. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services, beginning at 12 p.m. Private Military graveside services will be held at a later time in the Blair Cemetery.

Jim was born on October 21, 1924 in Niangua, Missouri to Ernest and Comer Sarah (Maroney) Long. He was a graduate of Blair High School. On April 24, 1943 he joined the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Enterprise. He received his honorable discharge in 1946. After returning to Nebraska, Jim began working as an electrician and then moved to Colorado to begin working for his uncle in the OK Tire business. In 1951 Jim returned to Blair and started the OK Tire store in Blair. On July 19, 1953 Jim was united in marriage to Shirley N. Friederichsen in Kennard. Over the years Jim was a member of many Blair groups and organizations. He served as a member of the Blair City Council, the Blair Fire Department, Commander of the Blair VFW, the Washington County Masonic Lodge #21 and was a life long member of First United Methodist Church in Blair.

Jim is survived by his children, Jay (Karen) Long, Kent (Sandy) Long and Pat (Stacy) Long all of Blair; grandchildren, Nicholas Long of Denver, Colo., Christopher Long of Beatrice, Jesse (Hilary) Long of Blair, Hannah Long of Kennard, Rory (Libby) Long, Keegan Long all of Blair, and Jason Jensen of Cheyenne, Wyo.; great-grandchildren, Harper and Jared; sister, Susie Tupper of Harlan, Iowa; as well as many other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; seven siblings; and his parents.

Memorials may be directed to the Blair Volunteer Fire and Rescue or the Nebraska Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
