JEANETTE JACOB

Jeanette A. "Jan" Jacob, 75, of Arlington died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

She was born Sept. 16, 1933, in Norfolk to William "Chris" and Anna (Andersen) Frey. She grew up in rural Madison County and was a 1950 graduate of Norfolk High School. She attended Norfolk Junior College for two years and received her bachelor of science degree from Dana College in Blair. She moved to Kennard in 1957, then to rural Arlington and in 1971 moved into Arlington. She taught in rural schools in Madison and Dodge counties in Nebraska. She then taught at Tekamah before teaching the next 26 years at Kennard and Arlington schools. She retired in 1995.

She married Herman H. Jacob on March 20, 1955, in Fremont.

She was a member of Arlington Community Church and the CCW of the church. She also was a member of the National Education Association and the Nebraska State Education Association.

Survivors include: her husband; two sons, Jeff (and wife Carol) Jacob of Fremont and Jerry (and wife, Jennifer) of Phoenix; two daughters, Julie (and husband, Mick) Rump of Fremont and Jane (and husband, Jim) Konecny of Arlington; a brother, Ken (and wife, Carol) of Rockford, Ill.; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandsons.

She was preceded in death by an infant sister and a grandson.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Arlington Community Church, United Church of Christ, in Arlington. Carole Stark will officiate. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Sunday at Reckmeyer-Mosed Funeral Home in Arlington with the family receiving friends from 3-5 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time Monday at the church. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery.

Memorials have been established to the church and the Parkinson Association.
