William Woodruff Handslip was born in Ayreswell, Suffolk county, England, August 5th, 1862. He came to the United States when he was about twenty years of age, settling first in Kansas, from whence he came to Burt county, Nebraska, where he farmed for some eighteen or twenty years. He then spent two more years in Kansas and finally came to live in Arlington in 1918. He married Margaret Gibson at Tekamah in 1887 and to this union there were born twelve children, two of whom died in their early years. The children left, with their mother to mourn his loss, are William Harrison, of Towner, Colo., Fred of Fremont, Nebr., Robert of Schuyler, Nebr., James of Oberlin, Kan., Mrs. J. Wallingford of Fremont, Nebr., Mrs. Guy Bogenrief, Mrs. Elmer Utterback, Mrs. Glen Houtchen, Walter and Eva, all of Arlington, Nebr. For a number of years Mr. Handslip had been in failing health, developing recently a serious illness from which he could not rally and he quietly passed away at five o’clock on the morning of January 6th, 1927. Funeral services were held at the home Friday and were conducted by Rev. Frank Williams, interment following in the Arlington cemetery.
