WELL-KNOWN BLAIRITE WAS LONG ON BUSINESS SCENE; EPISCOPAL RITES

Complications believed caused by injuries he received in an auto-truck collision two years ago resulted in the death last Thursday evening of Zenos B. Smith, 64, well-known former Blair businessman. Mr. Smith, confined to bed most of the time since 1952, died at the family home, 303 East Grant St.

Mr. Smith suffered critical injuries near the Pleasant View School July 21, 1952, when the car in which he was a passenger was in collision with a truck driven by a Tekamah man. At first it was feared he would not survive, but he recovered gradually and finally was able to be out and around for a time before other complications set in. He was hospitalized many months before being returned to his home in Blair.

Mr. Smith was for many years head of the mechanical department of the Arndt-Snyder Motor Co., now known as the R.B. Templeton Ford Garage. During World War II, he worked on the Alcan Highway project of building a road through Canada to Alaska.

TRACTOR FIRM PARTNER

Prior to the accident and his subsequent hospitalization and illness, he was an active partner with Curtis Rathmann in operation of the Blair Tractor Co.

The body was removed to the Campbell Mortuary. Funeral rites were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, which was filled to overflowing for the services. The Rev. Samuel Elliston officiated, and burial was in Blair Cemetery. Pallbearers were six friends of many years: Clifford E. Krause, Wilfred Arndt, Harry Beck, Prentice Smith, Wilbur H. Lowe and [obituary cut off]
