The death of old Mrs. Maher occurred at her home in this city last night between 8 and 9 o'clock. She has been ailing for a long time and was getting quite old. She has six children living, three sons and three daughters, five of whom live in Blair. She was well known and beloved by the people of Blair where she has resided for many years. Her funeral will occur from the Catholic church.

Catharine Maher was born in Ireland, and immigrated to the USA. She and her husband settled first in Cuming City, Nebraska, in Washington County. They were hotel owners and merchants. When the railroad came through, Cuming City re-located to the new town of Blair, Nebraska, and they moved to Blair.

The couple had six children, three daughters and three sons. The 1870 U.S. Census lists:
