Ashes interred in Tekamah Cemetery

Published in Tribune on 28 February 1913

The last sad rites over the ashes of the late Miss Kittie J. Burch were performed Sunday afternoon at the Tekamah cemetery, when the interment was made in the grave of her father, who passed away in 1888.

Kittie J. Burch was born here August 16, 1887, and died at the home of her mother at Los Angeles, Cal., Jan. 22, 1913. Funeral services were held at her late home January 24th, and in compliance with the request of the deceased, her body was cremated and the ashes interred in her father's grave in this city.

She was the only daughter of Jotham K. and Mae Burch (nee Mae Bowland). A few years after the death of her husband Mrs. Burch, with her daughter, moved to Blair, for educational advantages, and later to San Francisco, and were in the earthquake and fire zone of that dire calamity which destroyed their home. Since then they have made their home in Los Angeles.

It was on Feb. 4, 1912, that Miss Kittie met with the accident that later caused her demise. In her room she used a large folding bed and in some ways it became defective in its mechanism and closed upon her while she was sleeping, which caused an injury to her spine, leaving her an invalid and a patient sufferer until nearly a year later when she was called to that home above. Miss Kittie was the idol of her mother's heart; she was carefully reared and accorded all advantages in culture and education. She was admired and highly esteemed by all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance. The love of home and mother were her prominent characteristics. Her early demise is a matter on sincere regret by her many friends here who extend their sympathy to the heartbroken mother.

The services at the cemetery were largely attended by former friends of her parents, and were in charge of Mrs. B.H. Romans, Mrs. C.W. Reinert and W.W. Bowland, sisters and brother of Mrs. Burch, and were conducted by Rev. R.W. Taylor of the Presbyterian church, of which Mrs. Burch was a former member.-Burt County Herald
