Former Fort Calhoun resident Marjorie Burdess, 84, of College Station, Texas, died Sept. 2, 2001, at College Station. A memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept. 7, at the First Baptist Church in College Station.

Marjorie Ellen Burdess was born Oct. 14, 1916 in Lincoln to Boyd and Evelyn Ault. She attended school at Adams and Benson High in Omaha.

On Oct. 5, 1935, she married Harvey Burdess in Papillion. The couple lived in Benson before moving to rural Fort Calhoun in 1955. Mrs. Burdess moved to College Station in 1991.

Mrs. Burdess was an avid doll maker. Through her church-sponsored Discovery Program, she taught crafts to women from all over the world, while their husbands attended classes at Texas A&M University. She is survived by a brother, Gordon Ault of Gretna La., sons and daughters-in-law, William and Elizabeth Burdess of Fort Calhoun, Dan and Patty Burdess of Blair, Tom and Carol Burdess of Casper, Wyo., Don Burdess of Omaha; daughters and son-in-law, Patty Burke of Ogden, Utah, Evelyn and Gerald Burt of Omaha, Diana and Jim Buckingham of College Station, Terri and Jim Menges of Syracuse, Utah, and Sherri Thomas of Kingman, Ariz., 24 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey, and a grandson, Bobby.

Memorials are suggested to the Fort Calhoun Rescue Squad.
