Virginia L. Burgess, 75 of Arlington, died Thursday, May 27, 1999, at her home.

Services were Saturday, May 29, at the Arlington Community Church in Fremont. The Rev. Lynn Martin officiated.

Burial was in the Arlington Cemetery.

Virginia L. Burgess was born Sept 23, 1923, to George and Marie (Poole) Dowdall in Memphis, Mo.

She was raised in Missouri, graduating from Memphis High School.

On July 4, 1943, she married Floyd (Clayton) Burgess in Memphis, Mo.

She attended business college in Quincy, Ill. for one year and moved to Nebraska in 1955.

For a time, she lived in Omaha and Auburn. She moved to Arlington in 1960.

Beginning in 1967 she worked for the postal service. She retired in 1990.

She was a Post Mistress at Arlington from July 5, 1975 until retiring.

She was also a member of the Arlington Community Church, the Congregational Church Women, and was financial secretary of the church for 10 years. She belonged to V.F.W. Post 8332 Auxiliary of Arlington and worked as a volunteer at the Arlington Library.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Mary Burgess of Neligh and Ray and LuAnn Burgess of Woodlands, Texas; daughter, Ginger Burgess of Omaha; sister-in-law, Bernice Rule of Kansas City, Mo.; and four grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her infant brother, Roger Dowdall.

Memorials are suggested to the Arlington Community Church or the Arlington Community Fund.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington was in charge of arrangements.
