Mrs. W.H. Belnap's mother died at the Belnap home in this city at 1:40 Sunday morning, from cancer, from which she had suffered since last June. The funeral was held at the house at 11 o'clock yesterday, Rev. C.M. Foreman officiating, and the body taken to the German cemetery in Richland township for burial by the side of her husband, Paul Petersen, whose death occurred 24 years ago.

Julia Paarman was born in Germany August 4, 1852, and was therefore 63 at her last birthday. She came to this country with her parents when but a little girl and settled in Iowa. She was married there to Paul Petersen, and 12 children were born to them,* all of whom are still living. Mrs. Belnap of this city, Pauline and Hulda of Omaha, Sophia of Valdez, Alaska, Mrs. Oscar Kohl of Clinton, Iowa, Peter, Herman, Carrie, Maggie and Katie of this county. One son by a second marriage, Arthur Paasch, also lives in Clinton, Iowa. She also leaves two sisters and three brothers. One sister, Mrs. T.C. Carstensen of Walnut, Iowa, was here to attend the funeral.

Note: Paul and Julianna had only 11 children, with Julianna having a 12 child by a second marriage. Her son, Paul, was omitted from mention in the obituary.

Mrs. Julia Paasch

Mrs. Julia Paasch died at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Belknap, in this city, on last Sunday morning at 1:40 o'clock after an illness of nearly a year. Deceased was a native of Germany, born Aug. 4th, 1852, and came with her parents to America, when a child, settling in eastern Iowa, where she remained until married to Paul Peterson, come with her husband to this county and locating on a farm near the Douglas county line. To this marriage 12 children were born, Mrs. W. H. Belknap, of this city, Huldah and Pauline, living in Omaha, Mrs. Oscar Kohl, of Clinton, Iowa, Maggie, Carrie, Katie Herman, and Peter living in this county, and Sophia, of Valdez, Alaska, all except Sophia being present at the funeral. Paul Peterson, the husband, died twenty odd years ago and deceased was subsequently married to Claus Paasch and to them one son, Arthur, now living in Clinton, Iowa, was born. Three brothers and two sisters are living, one sister, Mrs. T. C. Carstensen, coming from her home at Walnut, Iowa, to attend the funeral.

Funeral service was held on Tuesday p.m. at the Belknap home, Rev. C. M. Foreman, pastor of the Baptist church officiating and the remains were buried by the side of her first husband in the German cemetery at the German hall in Richland township, in the neighborhood where they lived so long and had so many friends, many of whom have preceded her to that last resting place and will be her neighbors in repose.

Juliana Margaretha Paarmann Petersen Paasch was born in Barlt a municipality in the district of Dithmarschen, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

She first married Paul Petersen and had 11 children, including Anna Katherine "Kate". Kate was born in Clinton County, IA, and the other 10 children were born in Nebraska after the family relocated there.

After Paul's death,Juliana married the hired man, Claus Paasch. Juliana and Claus had a son named Arthur. Their marriage ended in divorce.
