Joseph A. Denton

Joseph A. Denton, 76 years old, for nearly fifty-seven a resident of Nebraska, and for over thirty years a citizen of Blair and Washington County, was run over and killed by an automobile five miles east of Cozad, Wednesday morning, Oct. 15. He was walking on the road and did not hear the machine until it was almost upon him and just as the driver turned out of the road to go around him, he heard it and without taking time to turn around hastened out of the road right in front of it. He lived about twelve hours after the accident, being unconscious the last ten.

He was a member of the Christian Church for nearly sixty years. Among his last words were, “I have fought a good fight, I have kept the faith.” He leaves seven children, four sons, Joseph W. and Osie E., of Zahl, North Dakota, Edwin W., of Morrill, Nebr., and Hiram L., of Cozad. Also three daughters, Lucy, of Denver, Estelle, of Missoula, Mont., and Mrs. Celesta Beir, of Rising City, Nebr. For several years he made his home with his son, Edwin at Morrill, Nebr., but for the last year with the exception of a few weeks with Mrs. Beir at Rising City and a few weeks in Missouri, he has made his home with Hiram who is the minister of the Platte Valley Christian Church seven miles east of Cozad. The funeral was held from the church, where his son ministers. J. J. Langston and J. H. Darnel, of Cozad, conducting the services. The body was laid to rest in Grace Cemetery nearby.
