Ronald T. Therkelsen (Turk) (Sept. 27, 1946-June 16, 2019), formerly of Blair, NE; Austin, TX, then Bassett, NE, where he retired, passed away peacefully June 16, 2019, after a brief battle with kidney cancer.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Maxine Therkelsen and his infant son, Ronald Therkelsen, Jrs. He is survived by his adult children: Kent (Jodi) Therkelsen, Matt (Heather) Therkelsen, Shilee (Dave) Mullin, Reed Therkelsen (Paula Wright), Jenny Therkelsen (Quenden Jerrells) and Natalie Therkelsen. He is also survived by his sister, Janay (Jim) Michael and his brother, Rodney--aka Skeeter (Ann) Therkelsen. Ron had four nieces, one nephew, and seventeen grandchildren.

Ron was a simple man and as hard-working as they come. He was a master carpenter with many skills and so much pride in his trade. He worked residentially and commercially until his retirement in 2009. His work through the years ran the gamut from owning his own business, working on residential projects in every facet, to being on a team for massive commercial projects such as the College of Engineering building at the University of Texas. He really enjoyed building things for people. Actually, he enjoyed people. He had a huge heart and would do anything for anyone.

He was sharp-witted in a sly and unexpected way and his mind was good until the end. A week before he passed away, he was playing cards with his granddaughter, Taylor, and told her, as the game dragged on that he had the card she needed. Once the game ended and he won, he laid down his hand, the card Taylor needed right there, and gave a sly smile, saying "I told you."

Hunter S Thompson must have known Ron personally when he wrote the following quote: "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, "Wow! What a Ride!" Ron didn't have a well preserved body, he was totally worn out and did have quite a ride. We will miss Ron and we are all so grateful for the time we had with him.

Rest in Peace, Ron Therkelsen (dad, son, brother, uncle, grandpa)--we love you!
