Herzog, Sarah Ester (Patrick) 8/17/1925

26 Aug., 1925 - The Pilot

Mrs. H. H. Herzog died Monday of last week near El Paso, Texas enroute to Tucson, Arizona where she, accompanied by her three daughters, Misses Merl, Frances and Gretchen, were going, hoping to benefit Mrs. Herzog’s health. She had been failing in health for some time and a year last July she, with her daughter, Miss Frances, went to Silver City, New Mexico. They remained there a year, returned home, and since that time she gradually grew weaker. She decided to try the climate at Tucson, Arizona, but being so weak, she was unable to stand the change and passed away early Monday near El Paso, Texas. The funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, August 20, from the home, Rev. T. J. Reese officiating. Mesdames L. V. Ackerman, C. E. Johnson, C. R. Gray and Fred Robertson with Mrs. O. H. Godsey at the piano furnished the music. From the home they proceeded to the cemetery where the beautiful and impressive funeral services of the Eastern Star were used after which she was laid to rest by the side of her husband, Mr. Herzog, who passed away November 4, 1919. The many friends of the family extend sympathy to those who have been called upon to mourn for their loved one. Sarah Esther Patrick was born February 26, 1872, in Monona county, Iowa and died August 17, 1925. She, with her parents, sisters and brothers, came to Nebraska forty seven years this last October and they lived on a farm six miles west of Herman where she remained up to the time of her marriage to Herbert Herzog, which took place on June 1, 1893. She came to Herman as a bride and with the exception of the year spent in New Mexico, she has lived in Herman ever since. To this union six children were born, two dying in infancy. The others Herbert H., Merl E., Frances D. and Gretchen M. are all at home. Mrs. Herzog taught school near Herman for several years and as a teacher gave splendid satisfaction. She united with the New England Baptist church when at twelve years of age, and remained a member of that church up to the time of her death. She lived a consistent Christian life and knew what it was to have the Lord as her Savior and helper. She had been a teacher in the Herman Baptist Sunday School for a number of years, and was a great help in other organizations of the church. She was a charter member of the Herman woman’s club and still retained her membership in the organization. She was always interested in every good movement of the club and worked to the good of the community. She had been a member of the order of Eastern Star for nearly thirteen years and was faithful to its teachings. She was a dutiful wife, a kind loving mother and a good neighbor loved and respected by all who knew her. She leaves to mourn her loss besides her children, two sisters, and four brothers, Javies R. Patrick of Ord, Neb., Mrs. Ann Goodrich of Herman, Nebr., Wade Patrick, Craig, Neb., Thomas Patrick, Herman, Mrs. Frank Jenkins, Blair, Nebr., and Judson Patrick of Garvin, Minnesota. Mr. Herzog preceded her in death having passed away November 4, 1919.
