Fred Ellis died at his farm home, the old Wm. McCowan place, north of town, at 11 o’clock Sunday evening of old age, he being 79 years old the 15th of May. The funeral was held at the farm home Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Mr. Reese of Herman. Burial was in the Herman cemetery. Mr. Ellis was born in Oldberg, Germany and came to this country with two brothers when he was 19 years of age. He learned the language readily and liked it here but the brothers returned to the mother country. He settled first in Ohio, then moved to Illinois and later to a farm in Burt county, moving to the farm where he died 14 years ago. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Buck about 47 years ago and five children were born to them, one son, Charles, died at the early age of 13. The living are Mrs. Benjamin Davis, who lives on the John Carter farm, Mrs. Lars Franssen, who lives near the home place, Nellie and Ted, who live at home.
