Custard, Margaret (Greer) (Coon)11/23/1925

2 Dec., 1925 - The Pilot

Mrs. Perry Custard, better remembered by old acquaintances as Mrs. Isaac Coon, died at her home in Omaha last Monday night. She had been an invalid for the past three or four years suffering with a hip injury caused from a fall. Her son, John Riherett died the following day at Saint Catherine’s hospital with cancer of the stomach and as the two deaths were so near together, the funeral was held the same day, Friday afternoon at 2:00 at Taggert’s undertaking parlors with burial in Forest Lawn cemetery. Before moving to Omaha the Coons were old residents of this place, having owned the Malley Coffin farm down by the river and Stillwater lake. They will also be remembered for their kind hospitality as their latch string was always out in hunting and fishing season to their numerous acquaintances and friends. For the last several years John had planned on the time he would be able to come back to DeSoto and dig for the old lost Bertrand, the steam boat that sank some sixty years ago with its precious cargo of thirty thousand dollars worth of quick silver, canned goods, whisky and merchandise of all kinds, and who knows but what in this day of modern machinery he might have found it.
