Flye, Mary A. (Waterhouse) 9/10/1925

16 Sept., 1925 - The Pilot

MRS. A. P. FLYE

Mary Waterhouse was born in Scarboro, Maine June 15, 1840 and died Sept. 10, 1925 at Blair, Nebraska, aged 85 years, 2 months and 26 days.

She was married to Albion P. Flye in the winter of 1858 at Saco, Maine. They lived in New Hampshire about three years, then came west to Minnesota where they resided until 1905.

Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Flye. Two died in childhood, the son, Roscoe died at the age of twenty one and daughter, Fannie was married to Mr. J. W. Snyder of Fairbault, Minnesota.

In the spring of 1905 Mr. and Mrs. Flye came to Nebraska to make their home near Mr. and Mrs. Alvan McKenny. Mrs. Flye and Mrs. McKenney were sisters and wished to be together as they were the only ones left of a family of eight children.

After a few years on the McKenny farm both families moved to Blair. Soon after this the daughter, Mrs. Snyder, came from Minnesota, hoping the change of climate would restore her failing health, but loving care was of no avail, and she died at the home of her parents in 1913.

Mr. Flye passed away about two years later. Since that time Mrs. Flye has lived with her sister, Mrs. McKenney, on East Park street where she had loving care and every attention.

Her cheerful disposition and fine personality endeared her to many friends. Though many sorrows had come to her in the loss of husband and children, she had always a smile and cheery word of greeting for all, and her life was an inspiration for those who knew her best. She will be missed by many, but especially by the sister who has cared for her with such devotion. The funeral service was held at the Methodist church at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon, Rev. O. U. McProud officiating. Burial was in the Blair cemetery.
