Obituary for Dorothea C Bell

Dorothea Christina (Jensen) Bell was born January 23, 1919 in Unadilla, Nebraska, on the family farm, to Chris and Minnie (Geschke) Jensen. She entered Heaven’s door May 27, 2018, at the age of 99 years.

Dorothea was affectionately named “DoDo” by her grandchildren, and that name was lovingly used by family and friends for the rest of her life.

When she was a young child, she and her family moved to Burt County in 1923. Her parents lived and farmed near Summit Lake. The house they lived in was on the site of Way North Restaurant. Her and her sister rode their ponies to a nearby country school. Her teacher let her skip a grade, so she entered high school younger than many of her classmates.

Dorothea married Ronald Bell on January 2, 1936. Together they farmed and raised livestock. To this union was born one daughter, Judith.

Dorothea and Ronald bowled in leagues in Tekamah. They enjoyed traveling to tournaments in the area.

She enjoyed cooking and serving others. She prepared many meals for shut-ins, youth groups and anyone that needed attention. She taught Sunday School, for 12-year-olds, for many years. Dorothea created beautiful floral arrangements and ceramics. She was very handy with a hammer and nails; she built shelves, chicken roosts, cupboards and many other items.

Her family was her joy. She wanted them to learn from her experiences. At family gatherings, she shared her thoughts on living a long and healthy life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ronald Bell; sister, Helen Bundy; great grandson, Adam Snow.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy (Lyle) Snow; grandchildren, Kristy (Mike) Johnson and Kim (Dee) Snow, all of Tekamah; great-grandchildren, Kyle (Mary) Johnson of Blair, NE, Cole Johnson of Omaha, NE; Aaron (Tara) Snow of Tekamah; Ethan (Alyssa) Snow of Grand Forks, ND, Allie Snow of Lincoln, NE, Emma Snow of Sioux Falls, SD, great great grandchildren, Samara and Bennett Johnson, Ezra Snow, Baby Snow who is due in August; niece, Laureen Canarsky of Oakland, NE; nephew, Ray Bundy of New Mexico; many other relatives and friends.

Memorial Service 10:30 AM Thursday, May 31 at Faith Family Baptist Church, Tekamah, NE--131 S. 13th. St. Luncheon will be at the Chat Center following the service. Private burial.
