EARLY TIME RESIDENT GONE

Mrs. John Tew, one of the earliest settlers of Blair, passed away Oct. 23 at her home in Kersey, Colorado at the age of eighty eight years.

Mrs. Tew, with her husband, came to Blair from Calhoun about 1870, and made this their home until about 1892 when Mr. Tew became interested in the Keeley Institute, a cure of inebriates, and with a company of men purchased the rights to this for the state of Wyoming which later necessitated their moving to that state.

The early records show that Mr. Tew was one of the first councilmen elected for Blair after its organization as a city in 1872. He also served as deputy sheriff under Rice Arnold.

After getting out of the deputy sheriff’s office, he started a blacksmith shop which trade he followed until he left Blair.

One son, Charles, was born to them, and this son became an attorney of considerable note. About four years ago he was the victim of an automobile accident which ended his life. The father had passed away some time previous, and the mother was left alone. She continued her residence in the west, although she kept in touch with a number of Blair friends.

The body was brought to Blair last Sunday morning and interment was made in the Blair cemetery.
