J. W. HILLMAN

John W. Hillman, a resident of north Blair for the past ten years, passed away Nov. 8 at six p.m. at the Mercy hospital in Council bluffs where he had been taken for treatment of that dread disease, diabetes, from which he had been a sufferer for some time. Deceased was born in Madison County, Iowa, Feb. 2, 1849, and was thus past eighty one years of age at the time of his death.

He was married to Miss Mary M. Kirk of Logan, Iowa, July 17, 1870, and to this union six children were born, all of whom are living. They are as follows: Mrs. Sherman Lockling of Modale, Ia; Fred Hillman of Strong City, Oklahoma; J. A. of Blair; Mrs. John Beaman of Modale, Iowa and Jesse and H. C. Hillman, both of Mondamin, Iowa. Besides these there are thirty four grandchildren, who with the aged wife, grieve deeply the death of the departed.

Mr. Hillman was, during his early life, a farmer which vocation he followed for fifty years in Harrison County, Iowa. Ten years ago he retired from the active duties of the farm and moved to Blair where he has since resided.

In his dealings with men, Mr. Hillman was strictly honest, always honorable and upright; he was highly respected by those who knew him.

The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at two thirty o’clock with Rev. Pardon of the local Methodist church presiding, and interment was made in the Blair Cemetery.

His death was the first break in the family circle. In a married life of over sixty years, he was first to go. Last summer the sixtieth wedding anniversary was celebrated, and this was a great day for the family and will always be a bright spot in the annals of the family history.

The Enterprise joins with the sorrowing family, and extends sincerest sympathy in this their great bereavement.
