BURDETTE SMITH

Burette Smith, son of Mrs. Birdie Warrick of 307 W. Lincoln street, was fatally wounded while out hunting on Tuesday, Nov. 4. He was rushed to the Covenant hospital where he lingered between life and death until Monday, Nov. 10, when he passed away at the age of 14 years, 10 months and 5 days.

Burette has spent all his life in Blair. He was a member of Junior high school, took part in the school band and the basketball team and was a general favorite with his schoolmates to whom he was known as “Smitty”. He was a regular attendant of the Baptist Sunday school, and will be greatly missed in his circle of friends.

His father, Philip Smith, passed away Nov. 5, 1918. He is survived by his mother, a brother, Clifford P. Smith of Omaha, two sisters, Mrs. Lawrence Metzler of Inglewood, Calif. and Miss Olive Smith of Blair. His grandmother is Mrs. Olive J. Smith of this city. Besides these, there are many other relatives who feel keenly his going

. The family have the deepest sympathy of the entire community, more especially the mother, in this her second period of sudden grief in a little more than one year. Her husband, Frank Warrick passed away very suddenly a year ago last July.

Funeral services were held from the Baptist church Wednesday, Nov. 12 a 2 p.m.

The music was furnished by members of the Junior high school with Prof. DeGroff in charge.

The pallbearers were boys, five of them were cousins, the sixth one was his friend, a neighbor, Jefferson Caldwell. Interment was made in the Blair cemetery.
