WASHINGTON COUNTY PIONEER RESIDENT PASSES

George C. Cachelin, son of Constant and Elizabeth Cachelin, and a resident of Washington county the greater part of his life, died at Omaha, Wednesday, Nov. 19 at the age of 79 years.

He was the one remaining member of an old pioneer family of one sister and six brothers.

He was born at St. Louis, Mo., and came with his parents by steamboat to Omaha at the age of six years. Soon after arriving in Nebraska, his parents settled at old DeSoto, at that time a rather thriving village where Constant Cachelin plied his trade as contractor and builder, also acquiring a homestead near the old DeSoto site.

It was at this home where Geo. Cachelin was reared to manhood and operated the farm for many years until he retired and moved to Blair.

His wife and one son preceded him some twenty years ago. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. J. B. Dewitt of Omaha.

The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at two o’clock at the Methodist church where many old time settlers, friends of his early days and his relatives, gathered to show their last respects to him and later followed the body to the Blair cemetery where he was laid to rest.
